I've put in a lot of hard work into this redesign, and I'm really proud of how it turned out. Please take the time to use all the new buttons!
I've consolidated a lot of different things into different pages, go see if you can find them all!
My goal for this was to incorporate images everywhere. In the previous iterations, there were images sometimes, but I never really found a good balance. I do believe that I've found that here.
It only took me 4 months to find this out.
Simple, if you're on mobile click the hamburger menu.. yes I tried to use a cheeseburger image as my menu but I've since decided against that for a more traditional 3 tier menu icon, a.k.a. the hamburger menu.
The new hamburger menu button
This is what the menu looks open, and hovering over a tab
On Desktop, you've got sections you can click into!
The desktop navigation menu
I've been trying to make the site more user friendly with hovers
I'm not too deep into the accessability community, but I do think that is a community that should not be neglected. I'm really appreciative of the site caniplaythat.com! They do great work on accessability features, and reviewing games and other things based on their accessability features.
With that said, that's why I've implemented these hover features nearly everywhere on the site. Easy to see what you're trying to click on. I hate when I don't know what I'm clicking on when I got to hit that super small icon to take me to somewhere I really didn't' want to go to.
This is what it looks like when you hover over an article
I've always tried to keep the same DNA throughout the lifespan of my site, from start to now, I've made accommodations for where I thought the industry was going. I'm specifically talking about how small this text block might seem to you. It is 600 pixels wide, and in creating this site and starting to write, I was under the impression that there was right size for blogs. And that's where I found 600 pixels wide. It looks small but I think it makes it very easy to read. Especially since I don't have any ads interrupting the reading experience.
You may have also noticed I have implemented a COVERAGE tab at the top of the screen. That's because I'm fancying myself a journalist. I love video games and tech and I wanted to write about them. I couldn't think of a place to really do that, but creating an entirely new category for it.
With that said, I will not be on the cutting edge of posting anything relatively quickly to the topic gaining traction, but I might be close to the action. For example, the most recent Apple Event, which I gave a preview here, I have yet to make any comment on that event being that is happened a week ago.
I'm still working out how I want that section to look, and what I want to give you the ability to do as well. I like the fact that everything feels cohesive, yet you know where you are on the site at all times. But also, I think there should be some originality when it comes to that coverage section, as that might get the most traffic on the site; if I market myself correctly.
That is all, for today. I'm ready to go have some lunch, read Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance: Book Two of the Stormlight Archive, and talk to my wife and son!
Hey, have a great day. Love life. Love your family. Love your friends. Spend time doing the things that you love.
Be good people.
