Written Review

I'm overall not impressed here. This book was really just fine. I read and listened to this book as I read - which I like to do. It helped me read the book in a totally of 2 days, which means I'm excited to get to read another book now!

Writing Style

I really didn't like the writing style of the book, it could be that I just finished The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan with multiple perspectives and also written in third person. This book was written all in first person.. "I crawled under the fence..." and there was also a strange phrasing that said "'how's the meat,' I say". Not I said. It's really kind of hard to explain, I guess it was just written like that so that you really felt like you were Katniss. It was just a little weird for me. I wasn't a big fan of it.

Story

The story was fine, really, it had some twists and turns that were completely out of left field and didn't feel very like the character would do that - maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I wasn't grabbed by the story. It was supposed to be visceral, and maybe because it was a middle grade book it couldn't be super violent. I may have just wanted it to be really violent - that might've made it better for me. I also would've liked multiple perspectives, but that is probably just personal preference again.

Review Score

4/5. I will, more than likely, not be rereading this book. And that's kind of where my score comes from. I didn't find the story fun or very exciting. I just wanted more.
