An absolutely blood pumping military thriller, with completely disgusting murders, with an incredibly intriguing story with twists and turns everywhere. From start to finish, I had no idea what was going to happen. I started off with a low score of a 3/5 because the book was just “okay” and then, some scenes took me to a 5/5. Then some gruesome descriptions of water-boarding and literal gutting of a person comes up, and that didn’t drop the score, it was just hard to read - obviously. But what really planted the 4/5 score for me, was the ending. I feel like it was unearned.

And truth be told, if you stop and think about these scenarios the main character is put in - there is really no losing. James Reece goes through A LOT in this book. But when it’s his turn for revenge, he legitimately never fails. Never fails at anything and is an expert at nearly everything he does with no backup plan - if he were to fail.
Now maybe that’s by design, but I read this book not thinking about that, until I finished the book. So, as you read, try not to think about any plot holes or not even plot holes - PLOT ARMOR for James Reece. I’ve heard that term before but it totally applies here.
James Reece can’t die and won’t. He is the main character and the story would fall apart without James. So, James doesn’t get caught by police, ever. James can kill anyone he meets. James can do no wrong.
I just couldn't understand why Ben would do that... "the money", I just don't know. I just didn't feel like that was something Ben would do, but that's how it played out.
If you disregard the ending and the plot armor, it's a great story!
Rant over, 4/5. A good book, thrilling and violent for sure. But the plot armor is strong with this book.
