The Prophet of Edan by Philip Chase Book Review

"I'm the raven that arises in the east and departs in the west."

Philip Chase’s The Prophet of Edan delivers an exhilarating journey that grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. The writing is so immersive and engaging that you can’t help but get sucked into the story. Every word feels carefully chosen, and it all just flows beautifully, making it a real pleasure to read.

The action in this book is intense. Chase doesn’t hold back, and the story moves at a relentless pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s packed with thrilling moments, and just when you think you’ve caught your breath, something new comes along to keep your heart racing. If you’re a fan of fast-paced stories, this one is a real treat.

The characters are another highlight. They were already interesting in the previous book, but here, they’ve really come into their own. Chase has done a fantastic job of developing them further, making them even more compelling. You get to see different sides of them, and some characters, in particular, have evolved into something truly special. They feel real, with strengths, flaws, and motivations that you can connect with.

One of the most unexpected and delightful parts of the book is the inclusion of dragons. I wasn’t expecting it, but when it happened, it was a game-changer. There’s a particularly memorable scene where a character has a conversation with a dragon, and it’s just incredible. It reminded me of Smaug in The Hobbit—tense, exciting, and so well done. This interaction adds a whole new dimension to the story and is one of those moments that you’ll keep thinking about long after you’ve finished the book.

The world-building is absolutely phenomenal. Chase takes us across a vast, diverse world filled with different cultures, languages, and traditions. Each place feels distinct, with its own unique flavor. You really get a sense of how varied and complex this world is. The way the story weaves in elements like religion, culture, and language makes it feel rich and layered. You get to see how the Holy War has shaped these different societies, and it’s fascinating to watch it all unfold.

What’s really impressive is how seamlessly Chase integrates all these elements into the story. It never feels like he’s dumping information on you. Instead, it’s woven naturally into the narrative, enhancing the world and making it feel alive. The detail and care that’s gone into creating this world are evident on every page.

Overall, The Prophet of Edan is a fantastic read. It’s got everything—action, well-developed characters, and a richly imagined world that’s a joy to explore. Philip Chase has outdone himself with this one, and I’m already looking forward to seeing where the story goes next. If you’re into epic fantasy with a lot of heart and excitement, this book is definitely worth picking up.
